A test run

I'm back from California (pictures from that trip still pending) and after two short days of work Ryan and I went on a backpacking trip to test out our gear and our stamina--one of these two things was fine... Pictures are here and here!

You're out of shape? We're all doomed!

So, how did the snow-peak compare to the Jetboil?

Well, let's just say I don't think I was meant to be a beast of burden. When I took off my pack I was just fine, but I was very ready to be done carrying it each day after only four miles each way.

Snow-peak vs. Jetboil: Both boiled water very quickly--much more quickly than I remember our alcohol stoves doing. Both our models have automatic push-button lighters but we had some trouble getting the Jetboil to light (started on 30th or 40th click) whereas the Snow-Peak lit on the first click. The Jetboil was very self-contained and (once lit) safe feeling whereas the Snow-Peak felt a little wild and out of control despite the fact that I turned it down pretty low--I was scared the whole time it was going that I was going to start a forest fire. Perhaps both of these problems could be fixed with a little practice.
