Gum Surgery

Today I had gum surgery. I had decent-sized swathes of the roof of my mouth snipped out and sutured to the gums of lower jaw. It wasn't a particularly enjoyable experience, but at least its over. I've decided to share a couple of pictures I took of my mouth fairly recently after I returned home from the surgery, but I know that most of you probably don't want to look. So I have cute springy pictures as covers, and if you choose to click on them, you should get the disgusting mouth pictures. Sound like a good deal? OK, here we go.

If you click on the following picture you will see my beautiful frankenstein gums. The pale stuff is the tissue that's been removed from my palate and sutured in place there. I counted 31 stitches while she was suturing.

Clicking on the next picture will show you the result on my palate. It turns out that it's really difficult to take a picture of the roof of your own mouth, especially when you're in pain. Also I was still bleeding quite a bit so this is a pretty bloody picture. The pale area is the back of my throat which is actually perfectly normal and healthy. The dark rectangles near my teeth are the areas from which the tissue was removed.
